How We Eat + Work + Play

FOOD

Our Approach

We take pride in serving organic, nutrient-packed meals & snacks to all attending children. We love whole, seasonal foods. We avoid serving highly processed foods that are high in seed oils, GMO corn/soy, or have added syrups/sugar. Fresh produce is sourced primarily from the farmer’s market or Good Earth, and menus are seasonal when possible.

Some sources…

  • Fats: avocado, whole milk yogurt, cottage cheese, full-fat cheeses, nuts, pumpkin seeds, butter, nut butters

  • Proteins: chicken, chicken nuggets/tenders, turkey, beans, peas, lentils, hummus, turkey sausage, turkey meatballs, eggs, salmon, fish sticks

  • Fruits: berries, mango, pineapple, watermelon, cantaloupe, bananas, apples, oranges, clementines, pears, peaches, plums, pluots, kiwi

  • Vegetables: broccoli, peas, cauliflower, romanesco, carrots, yams, sweet potato, zucchini, beets, potatoes, spinach, mushrooms, bell pepper, cucumber

  • Grains: quinoa, whole-grain pasta or organic Italian pasta free of glyphosate, Dave’s sliced breads & bagels, rice, tortillas, Annie’s mac ‘n cheese, plain or seeded crackers, oatmeal, dry cereals, home-made muffins and protein-packed pancakes

WORK

Our Approach

In her research, Dr. Maria Montessori found that a young mind learned the most when given a task with purpose. When we use the term “work” what we mean is an activity, manipulative, project, or work station that offers the child meaningful opportunity with which to engage. Our classroom provides constantly rotating “shelf works” for children to choose from, allowing them to explore with developmentally appropriate materials. See our Curriculum page for more information.

PLAY

Our Approach

Keeping with our theme of intention, our play has purpose too. Outdoor time focuses on gross motor skills. We get Learners moving their whole bodies by running, jumping, or climbing.
